When my kids were little, the big thing in our neighborhood was to try and catch a leprechaun. The night before St. Patricks day, they would build a trap. It usually involved an upside down laundry basket, bracing the basket up and some bait. They would race to it in the morning. Of course the leprechaun was too fast. But he usually wasn't so fast that he would leave the trap overturned and candy of gold left behind. I'm not really sure how this little tradition started, but it was fun. And most of the neighborhood did the same thing. They couldn't wait to get to the bus stop to see if any of the other kids' traps worked.
