Okay, lower those eyebrows. I am not talking about getting Aunt Mildred a Sawzall here; I am thinking of a hugely practical and unexpected gift. We have given many men in our lives a nice new set of screwdrivers as a gift and the response is almost always along the lines of “This is so great! I have lost a few in my old set over the years.” However even better than that, my wonderful friend Charlotte shared an idea that made it impossible not to include this on the list. This year she is getting all of her friends this nifty little hammer.

It is basically everything you need for “around the house” jobs packed into one (easier to store, harder to loose) package. They make these in plain steel, but I like the silk screened version. It’s cute and the girly-ness will deter use (and loss) by the man of the house. You can pick this up on Amazon for $5.50; which certainly makes it a reasonable gift to give Auntie dear or a few friends. Trust Charlotte. She knows what she is doing. If you know her, you know that she is the woman Martha Stewart wishes she was.

Now, to receive a 6 in 1 hammer/screwdriver set for your junk drawer, leave a comment telling us what is the most “creative” thing you’ve used as a tool by Sunday, Dec. 19th. (Come on, we’ve all used a butter knife to try and get a screw out. It’s a safe place, you can share.)

*Extra entries can be earned by blogging, tweeting, or posting on Facebook (with links) about this giveaway. Please leave a comment for each additional entry.

The winner will be chosen by random.org and announced on Monday Dec. 20th. Good luck!

gift 8: family photography with stephanie bletzacker

There are so many great gifts you can give with photos. Calendars, photo blocks, and even a just a nicely framed photo will definitely make many family members smile. However, if you have someone you really love, a great gift is to give them a photo session. We all seem to have a hard time getting around to taking pictures; wouldn’t you love a certificate for a photography session, taking the work out of tracking down a great photographer, and moving “get family photos” off of the someday section of your to-do list?

We had our pictures taken last month. I wanted them for a Christmas card (and setting a deadline helps make it happen :D). Of course, I put it off long enough that it was cold and a little crazy. We had a string of mishaps that day and I honestly wondered if we would be able to get anything good. I was amazed and thrilled when I saw the pictures Stephanie captured. She is a miracle worker! Stephanie Bletzacker specializes in kids and it is nothing short of astounding to see the beautiful images she can coax out often unwilling subjects. Here area a few of our pictures:

Now for the really fun part; Stephanie has graciously offered one of you a free photo session (a $150 value). You do have to be in the Salt Lake Area (or willing to travel and it may be worth it, wink wink) to enjoy Stephanie’s skills.

To enter to win a free session with Stephanie Bletzacker, leave a comment telling us when your last family photograph was taken by Tuesday, Dec. 14th

*Extra entries can be earned by blogging, tweeting, or posting on Facebook (with links) about this giveaway. Please leave a comment for each additional entry.

The winner will be chosen by random.org and announced on Wednesday Dec. 15th. Good luck!

gift 7: personalized notepad from sweet life paper

Taking the time to find a personalized gift shows that you care. A lot. Enough to take time to find a personalized gift. (wink) A coffee cup with their name on it–okay, you are thinking; but giving something useful and stylish like Sweet Life Paper’s charming notepads will definitely score a home run. The designer of Sweet Life Papers was kind enough to share a little about herself. She writes:

I have always been making creative things whether it be making a candle, sewing a pillow, ceramics, or watercolor painting. After working at a stationery company for a while I realized that I had an obsession with paper art and design and decided to make my own stationery company. I started by deciding my first product would be a hot pink stationery, but after only a few sales I realized that the hot pink wasn’t so hot. I made a full line of organic inspired designs that are full of color after that conclusion. I have 3 goofy dogs and always try to add a small amount of whimsy in my designs in honor of them. Whenever I’m working on my stationery I’m never alone because they are always here watching me. I love when I get repeat customers because that tells me that I’m doing something right. My only drawback is being a slight perfectionist when it comes to my stationery. Thank you to Keersten for letting me do this giveaway on her blog for a personalized notepad of your choice.”

I fell in love with Sweet Life Paper’s notepads. Check out her etsy shop and you’ll see why.

To enter to win your own customized notepad, leave a comment telling us which of Sweet Life Paper’s designs you’d like to give to a friend by Monday, Dec. 13th. This contest is open to US and Canadian residents.

gift 6: serving tray from C.D.Childs Glass Designs

C.D.Childs Glass Designs was the (blessed) answer to what to get for one of my favorite (and more tricky to buy for) friends this year. I think the thing that just thrills me about giving fused glass coasters or a serving tray is that you are giving someone art, but it is very functional-in other words, a perfect gift. Denise Childs has been working with glass for 12 years. She says that while she does a lot of stained glass contract labor for private residents, churches and home builders; her fused glass art is what that she loves to do in her spare time.  “I call it my personal time for creativity.  Most of my fused glass work is inspired by nature.  I have a love of the outdoors and I’m always trying to recreate my surroundings in glass.”

Take a look around her etsy shop and you will see that she has translated that love of nature by creating in an impressive variety of beautiful things to add color to your home and more.

Denise is going to send one of you her clear wine bottle serving tray with a beaded spreader. It will definitely be the hit of any get-together you are hosting.

To enter to win this witty serving tray, leave a comment telling us which of C.D. Childs glass designs you’d like to give to a friend by Saturday, Dec. 11th

*Extra entries can be earned by blogging, tweeting, or posting on Facebook (with links) about this giveaway. Please leave a comment for each additional entry.
