I have to admit that I am a sucker for interesting treats (tasty is also important, no thank you to the cockroach clusters!) I just love the idea of unwrapping a gift and finding all sorts of delicious little surprises waiting for me. I think exceptional candies-not just the run of the mill grocery store stuff, but stuff with character-brings out the kid in all of us. I stumbled onto Melville Candy Co. and was charmed from the first click. (It was the lobster, I’ll admit it. A lobster sucker is just plain awesome!) Although they certainly have more to offer, it is the suckers that I went crazy for.
I received my candy (very kindly sent to me to sample; but I would have ordered even if they didn’t offer.) yesterday and was thrilled to find that their Barley lollipops are even better in person, especially because you get to taste them. Barley sugar candy has been around for over 100 years and it definitely has a more complex flavor than most suckers. It is similar to the difference between store bought and homemade for many treats. The complexity of the designs is also completely enchanting. Many of them are 3 dimensional and almost hard to eat because they are so very pretty. The Melvilles have been hand-molding their confections since 1978 and are still a family business, making candy by hand the old school way.
The nice people at Melville Candy Co. have generously offered a $40.00 gift certificate to one of you so you can tickle someone’s taste buds this Christmas.

These are perfect for my non chocolate treat needs! I love the ladybug and the large flowers.
The peppermint trees look adorable!
That’s a tough decision. I think my favorites are the retro lollipops. I love everyone!
My kids would be all for the tractor, alligator, and ladybug suckers. Too fun:)
I loved the dinosaur pops and the peppermint chocolate spoons.
These are just like the suckers we got in our stocking each Christmas. So I would have to go with the reindeer suckers. they remind me of Christmas. (I would also have to buy enough to give to each of my siblings, not just my kids)
I just posted about your giveaway on my blog.
p.s. thanks for having my button on your sidebar
i love the barn sucker…Maybe Brody can have a barnyard bday party next year 🙂
I tweeted!
The flamingo ones are funny…I think I like those
Pick me, please!
I loved these suckers! Our Christmas stockings were made out of felt and I would forget and put a licked sucker back in my stocking only to find lint on it the next time. Not to be detered i would still suck off the lint and continue to enjoy. No matter the shape, I loved them all!
That’s so hard to pick. I think my favorite (at least for today) is the snowman. They are really cute!
I totally blog stalk you through Julie and DeeDee–love your blog! I love the reindeer barley pops. Reminds me of growing up. Last year I was given one for Christmas and it took me right back to 1972.
